This funnel excels at that function. I initially purchased it to be able to fill a canister with ground coffee without making a big mess, but have since found more uses for it. I’ve used it to store and portion out dry goods like cereal and rice, as well as put up soup and chunky stews for the freezer. The best feature is the wide lip, which acts as a grip and helps to catch spillage to keep your counter clean. I like the wide lip better than the old loop handle style of canning funnels because it allows the funnel to sit squarely inside a greater variety of containers. The neck part measures 2-3/4″ (70mm) dia. x 3/4″ tall to fit wide mouth canning jars perfectly and appears to be well-made of 18/8 stainless steel. It’s heavy for its size so it remains stable while pouring. The funnel is well made, very heavy duty and looks like it was built to last a life-time. As others have stated, this is very handy for many uses. If you are looking for a funnel that will fit inside of standard size canning jars, this is not the right one to get. It’s very sturdy, heavy, and you know right from the start it will hold up over time. You will believe me when you see it for yourself – yes, it’s more expensive than other products, but it’s absolutely worth it IMO. I’ve used it for one canning season so far (pickles, tomato sauce, salsas) and there is no rust, no wear, and it kept everything from spilling outside the jars! I recommend this funnel hands down versus plastic or any other funnel where rust may/has been a concern from other reviewers. Very happy and looking forward to more canning! |
